Why is my maternal or paternal haplogroup geographically located in a different place from my birth?

Updated on

At tellmeGen, we use recognized databases that allow us to geographically assign your paternal or maternal haplogroup to the regions where it is most frequent to find that haplogroup. However, this does not mean that the haplogroup is only found in that region, nor that other types of haplogroups do not exist in that region.

Human history has been marked by great migrations, which has resulted in the same haplogroup being found in various parts of the world. Thus, the geographical assignment of your haplogroup reflects where it is most common, but it is not necessarily related to your place of birth.

In summary, the geolocation of your haplogroup does not imply that your ancestors come directly from that region; rather, the genetic comparison shows the areas where that haplogroup is most frequent.
