If I have received a bone marrow transplant, could this affect my test results?

Updated on

If you have recently received a bone marrow transplant, it is not advisable to take the tellmeGen DNA test. It must be taken into account that the saliva sample contains DNA from different types of cells: epithelial cells from the cheeks and mouth, as well as white blood cells from the saliva. Upon receiving a bone marrow transplant, your blood cells will contain DNA from the marrow donor, while your epithelial cells contain your own DNA. The combination of two or more DNA sources usually causes errors in the analysis. Even if the analysis were successful, it would not be clear whether the results obtained are from your DNA or from the donor's genetic material.
