The instructions for a correct saliva collection in kits with a saliva tube are reflected inside the genetic analysis that arrives at your home so that you have no doubts at the time of collection.
Before performing the saliva genetic test
As this is a genetic test, it is not necessary to perform it while fasting. However, you must not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, or brush your teeth in the 60 minutes prior to taking the sample.
There is no problem in performing this DNA saliva test if you are pregnant or taking medication. However, the DNA we extract from saliva is obtained both from the cells of the oral epithelium and from the white blood cells present in it. Since white blood cells can represent up to 70% of the total processed cells, it is recommended that individuals who have a decrease in these levels (due to illness, chemotherapy drugs...), wait until their white blood cell level normalizes before performing the test, to ensure a good quantity and quality of the DNA to be analyzed.
Caution: Do not ingest. If the solution comes into contact with eyes or skin, wash with plenty of water. Keep out of reach of children.
The procedure is very simple:

During the performance of the saliva genetic test
Step 1: Spit into the funnel until the amount of saliva (not including bubbles) reaches 2 ml.
Step 2: Hold the tube upright and close the lid so that the preservative solution passes into the tube and mixes with your saliva. IMPORTANT: Once the lid is closed, unscrew the funnel and locate the red cap before moving to the next point.
Step 3: Close the collection tube with the cap. Ensure it is hermetically sealed so that the sample does not experience problems during transport.
Step 4: Shake the tube up and down 5 times to mix the saliva and the preservative solution. Discard the used funnel.
Step 5: Store the tube with your saliva sample in the space provided for it inside the transparent plastic blister pack.
Step 6: Place the plastic blister pack inside the cardboard box and the cardboard box inside the bag. After registration, we will provide you with a return label if it is not already attached to the bag.
Duo / Family Genetic Analysis: Insert the blister packs into the plastic bag. After registration, we will provide you with the pre-printed return label if it is not already stuck on the bag. It is not necessary to use the cardboard box. The plastic blister packs will protect the samples until they reach the laboratory.
Storage of the saliva genetic test
The preservative liquid in the tube allows for adequate storage at room temperature (15-30ºC) for 12 months after sample collection. It is recommended to avoid other anomalous conditions.
