DNA sequencing is a technology that allows us to know and decipher the genetic information of a living being. In other words, sequencing a genome consists of 'reading' that genome, which contains essential information for its development and functioning, as if it were a book of genetic instructions.
The most relevant detail of sequencing is that it obtains the exact order of the nucleotides in an organism's genome. The entire genome goes through the same process, thus analyzing all of the individual's genes in their entirety. In this way, it differs from other methods that work with only a part of the individual's DNA, which in exchange streamline costs and times.
For this reason, sequencing should not be confused with other processes such as genotyping.
